The Emir of Ningi, Alhaji Yunusa Muhammad Danyaya marks 40 years on the throne at the helm of affairs of emirate council.
Historical records have shown that the emir was turbaned on January 27, 1978 , succeeding Ibrahim Gurama who rules the Ningi from 1963-1977.
Alhaji Yunusa was born in 1936. He attended Ningi Elementary School, Bauchi Middle School, School of Hygiene Kano.
Danyaya later joined Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, where he obtained a diploma Public Administration.
Traditions and cultures of the emirate shown the emir is being selected by kingmakers that include Madakin Ningi, Sarkin Ari, Hakimin Burra, Hakimin Warji, Chief Imam of Ningi and the council chairman of Ningi Local Government area.
Secretary to the Ningi emirate Alhaji Suleiman Shehu in an interview with Daily Trust in 2014 explained that “After the emir has received staff of office, he will be given three things; the Holy Qur’an, mashi (spear) and simbatse (shoes),”.
The Madaki presents mashi and simbatse to the new emir, while the Imam presents him with the Holy Qur’an
Riding horse and durbar procession are parts of the cultural activities that boost the role of traditional activities of the emirate. During the events, traditional weapons are displayed, amidst songs and drums by palace servants and traditional titles holders.
According to the traditions of Ningi emirate, the emir during traditional durbar or tour rides a horse, he goes round the town in the company of his traditional title holders. Usually, Barde leads the procession, followed by Dan Iya, then the District Head of Ningi, Dangaladima, Baraya, Shettima, Tafida, Yerima, Chiroman Ningi and then the Emir of Ningi and Village Head of Burra, while the Madaki brings up the rear of the procession.
Emirates Secretary added that “Palace sitting is one of the important activities of traditional institution and it was also done best according to traditional hierarchy. Madaki sits at the front, followed by others like Chiroma, District Head of Ningi, Village Head of Burra, Village Head of Warji, Matawalle, Yerima, Baraya, Sarkin Malamai, Dan Iya, Tafida, Shettima and Dangaladima.”
Alhaji Yunusa Muhammadu Danyaya, is a distinguished and highly respected first class traditional ruler in the North-east zone.
People of Ningi emirate highly adored Danyaya for his sense of justice fairness and equity.
