An Open letter to the Northern Senators Forum - By Khalid Barau Ningi

Assalamu Alaikum, I greet you all in the spirit of  brotherhood. The very essence of my letter to you is to remind you of your primary assignment of representing us in the hallow chamber of the National Assembly among other things; to make law for order and good governance of Nigeria, protecting our rights and keeping this country economically, socially, politically, religiously  and morally sound.
It is also your solemn responsibility to oppose any inciting statements that may trigger violence or a treat to our peaceful coexistence in this country “Nigeria”.

All Nigerians irrespective of our religious or cultural diversity agree to be our brothers keeper, help one another in terms of needy, support one another, play with one another, dine and wine with one another, drink & eat from same plates and cups.

This is a true definition of togetherness & unity. But to my greatest surprise, very recently, a video goes viral in the social media were a serving senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria is quoted to have been saying or  accusing Northerners of not speaking good English and even claimed to have said “If care is not properly taken, in time to come, the Northerners might send representatives that cannot even speak in English” . This is very disheartening, very scaring  & insulting statement.

Even though there may be, an element of truth in that assertion, yet no senator from my Northern region stand up against his submissions with a decisive evidence of the contributions of the likes of  Late Sule Yari Gandi of blessed memory, Late Mal Ali Wakili of blessed memory, Late Bashir Mustapha of blessed memory, our very own Professor Jibrin Aminu, the vocal and eloquent Senator Abdul Ningi, the outspoken Shehu Sani, the mighty Oloye Saraki and the voice of Northern senators Dino Melaye.

All the aforementioned Senators served this country with honor, commitment ,loyalty and dedication to service.

Today we have one of  the finest in this country when it comes to public speaking, but none among them have the boldness to squarely addressed the allegations of Senators Rochas Okorocha! Congratulations to all of you for your failure to protect our image, our identity, our heritage & symbolic identity as “Northerners” .

You all have proved to us that we should individually and collectively stand up and defend the #North no matter what it takes, since you have lost the capacity to do that for us.

Most of you attended schools far beyond his knowledge, but all of you remain mute and busy competing with each other in buying houses, foreign trips, monetary investment & buying the most expensive cars or chattering private jets for your events.

When the growing number of out school children is rapidly increasing with over 70% of that population resides in the #North. Today celebrities in the #North are taken over your responsibility in supporting the less privilege students to pursue their dream in Education. Congratulations to Super eagles captain Ahmed Musa, Munirat Sulaiman Tanimu of Green Heart Impact Foundation, Actress Rahama Sadau, Director Adam Zango and many more for all they did in impacting the lives of the less privilege and  invested in our potential young men and women in various levels of educational endeavors.

Wallahi posterity will surely judge you of your actions, it is a demon that will come back and hunt you down, the consequences of your actions will be manifested. Mine is to advise, Yours is to take action. We both need each other to change narratives.

In the end, I pray and hope that God almighty will give you the strength, wisdom & ability to take my advise with a decisive actions and change the narrative in the #North.
