People and Places of Ganjuwa Local Government

Ganjuwa is a Local Government Area of Bauchi State , Nigeria. It was in September 1991 from the defunct Darazo Local Government and it’s bordered with Jigawa State from the North and Gombe State from the South East.


 The Local Government also shares border with the following Local Governments: - Bauchi Local Government from the South, Toro Local Government from the West, Ningi Local Government from the North West, Darazo Local Government from the North South East and Kirfi Local Government from the East.

The 2006 Population Census figure, shows  that the Local Government having 280, 486 as its population with numerous tribes/languages.

Prominent languages and tribes in the Madakin Bauchi Land are Gerawa, Denawa, Miyawa, Fa'awa, Jimbunawa, People of Tsagu, Sirawa, Kariyawa, Hausawa, Fulanis among others.

 In 2013 during the administration of Dr Malam Isah Yuguda   created  additional Districts and Village Areas across the State by the Isah Yuguda Administration, Ganjuwa Local Government gets Eight (8) Districts, thirty three (33) Village Areas and 275 Hamlets.

The Madaki of Bauchi is the District Head of Ganjuwa, being the King maker of the Bauchi Emirate, he is the overall Districts Head who coordinate the activities of the other Districts in the Local Government. The Districts created are: Ganjuwa, Kafin Madaki, Miya, Kariya, Soro, Deno, Gere and Yali. But now the newly created districts and villages were being cancelled by present administration of Governor M.A Abubakar leaving only Ganjuwa as District with 8 Wards namely Ganjuwa, Gungura,Kafin-Madaki, Nassarawa,Kubi, Kariya, Miya and Yali with Villages controlling Hamlets.


Its headquarters is located in Kafin Madaki town forty five (45) kilometers from Bauchi the State Capital along Kano Road.

There are some towns being consired by  the Local Government due their positions and commercial activities being carry out there, these include Kafin Madaki at the centre being the Local Government Administrative Headquarter, Soro from the East along Maiduguri road and Miya from the West along Warji road.

Ganjuwa local government has an area of 5,059 km² with varse land suitable for farming and grazing of Cattles.

 Major Occupations of the area : Farming, Trading, Cattle rearing, Weaving, Iron Bending, Black-Smithing and Fishing.
Major Crops grown by the people of Ganjuwa:  Food Crops - Sorgum, Millet, Maize, Rice. Cash Crops: Beans, G/Nuts, Millet, Sugar-cane, tomatoes and other vegetables.

Religion being practice in Ganjuwa : Predominately Islam. There are Christian and Traditional religions.

 Climatic Conditions : Summer  in April and May, Winter period between December and February with Sudan Savannah Vegetation.

Educational Institutions in the area includes Primary Schools widely distributed in the area and Secondary Schools namely;   Government Girls’ College Kafin Madaki (Special School), Government Day Secondary School each at Kafin Madaki, Miya, Nassarawa, Yali, Sabon Kariya, Soro, Zalanga & Gungura.   Technical College, Kafin, Madaki.Currently Police College is under construction being awarded by the Federal Government in Kafin-Madaki.

Health Institutions: General Hospital Kafin Madaki, Health Centres at Soro, Miya and Nassarawa.

Ganjuwa Local Government has Sixty One (61) Health facilities across the Local Government with additional one now in Barkaya,Yali Ward constructed by the present administrations of Governor M.A Abubakar.

Commercial & Industrial Activities: Some few cottage industries exist in rural area’s like soap making, knitting, weaving established by some women groups and bakery, bricks moulding, block moulding, semi industry poultry, etc.
Transport: A good road network linking the state capital with the local headquarter.There is a Trunk ‘A’ road that cut across the Local Government in two places i.e. Bauchi - Kano by the west and Bauchi - Maiduguri by the East. There are a number of Trunk ‘B’ and feeder roads leading to major Towns and Villages.

The Local Gov’t is connected GMS providers which include; Airtel, Etisalat, glo and MTN in most of the prominent towns and villages.

Power Supply: The Local Government is connected with National Grid and solar installations in some places which are basically provided to assist water supply equipment.

The Local Goverment is bless with large deposits of untapped mineral resources  which include: - Kaolin all over the Local Government. - Marble around Siri. - Petroleum products around Gungura. - Columbine, Clay & Silica sand around Bunga, Jangu, Wushi and Kalasu. - Tin-mining around Jimbin, Laguru and Siri Zurhu. - Precious stones around Kafin Madaki, Deno, Kubi, Yaga, Kariya and Kafin Zaki Dam.
